“Greater Knowledge – Greater Service”
The Desk and Derrick Club of Lafayette is one of several energy organizations active in Lafayette which promote the energy education of our industry.
The purpose of the Association of Desk and Derrick Clubs is to promote the educational and professional development of individuals employed in or affiliated with the petroleum, energy and allied industries and to educate the general public about these industries. The mission is to enhance and foster a positive image to the global community by promoting the contribution of the petroleum, energy and allied industries through education by using all resources available.
Our organization provides it members with presentations on various topics relating to the energy industry. Topics range from drilling, transportation, new equipment designs and technologies.
In addition, field trips and seminars are held outside of the general member meetings. Several topics include the St. Landry Landfill, Port of Iberia, parliamentary topics, leadership and professional development. Anyone employed within the energy industry is invited and encouraged to attend our meetings as a prospective member.
The Lafayette Club has been involved in assisting LAGCOE and other energy-related organizations with their event registrations for many years. In September 2014, the Desk and Derrick Club of Lafayette hosted the ADDC Annual Convention and Educational Conference, which was held at the Lafayette Hilton. About 400 members and guests converged on Lafayette from throughout the United States and Canada where they were able to attend energy-related field trips and seminars, an energy symposium and listen to various industry speakers. In addition, they were treated to our Cajun hospitality by visiting Vermilionville, Shadows on the Teche, Tabasco and Jungle Gardens.
Clubs throughout our association award numerous educational scholarships to eligible persons pursuing a degree in an energy-related field. The Association of Desk and Derrick Clubs also has available their “Bit of Fun Energy Activity Book,” which is geared towards middle-school children to educate them about our ever-changing industry.
